PM420: StarFabric based Compact PCI Rear Transition Module
The PM420 is a Compact PCI Rear Transition Module is intended for use with the PM410 StarFabric based Compact PCI PMC Carrier board or similar multi-segment node board with PMC user I/Os routed on J5 according to PICMG 2.17.
The PM420 routes the four StarFabric links on the J3 connector to four sets of RJ45 connectors on the PM420’s back panel according to PICMG 2.17. This provides the user with a way of connecting StarFabric links between multi-segment node boards in a backplane (e.g. PM410s) and/or external StarFabric boards via CAT-5 cable interfaces.
The routing of the PMC user I/Os on J5 follows the specification given in PICMG 2.3. According to this only 110 PMC user I/Os are routed on the backplane. The PM410/PM420 routes the remaining 18 PMC user I/Os on the J4 backplane connector. These PMC user I/Os are routed to four header connectors on the PM420 that can be accessed via a cut-out in the PM420 back panel.
